Jai Shri Krishna! Nostalgia sets in as I get involved in a conversation related to Shri Krishan Janmashtmi, I am not certain about other parts of India but in Northern India, I have seen and myself been involved in being fully adorned up in form of Shri Radha as a child, not to miss out that young boys were also seen portraying themselves as Krishna.
When I look back I wonder, what is the satisfaction that our parents got from seeing us in these costumes! What brightens the eye of the modern class who still love to flood social media with the pictures of their infants/ children being dressed up like Shri Radha/Krishna on Janmasthmi? It makes a lot more sense if we make the generations aware of the various aspects of lives of these two respected figures.
It is for parents to impart the lessons from the deepest form of love Lived by Shri Radha Krishna; Selflessness, Devotion, Patience, Sacrifice and how it is the duty of a companion to ensure respect for the partner. How the feeling and need of companionship is more important than a label of marriage.
What are we passing on to the generations? Few photos and sweets in form of Prasad? Or stories and rituals that involve learnings and logics? When was the last time you discussed the life of role models who are cornered in your house within the frames (if any)? How many of us want to live the life of role models and not the myths of mythology? Lost in the world of materialism we have long forgotten the value of true friendship, families, relatives and responsibilities towards society.
P.S When was the last time you chanted to feel peace and positive energy around and within?
