Failure-it-is

The outcome of a  feedback session depends on both parties, the one who receives it and the one who gives it. I have been hearing from my mentor over a period of time, that we should be quite and not give any explanation while we receive feedback, this is to be strictly followed in case of receiving developmental feedback. While I was discussing few case studies with my team today I suddenly realized that I too was following the same language and understood the gist of it much more than I did earlier. I explained them that failure is just a failure and no excuse can actually change the outcome. Yes we should introspect it and see as to what could have been done but it doesn’t change the fact that we have actually failed in achieving any particular result. The many reasons that we give justifying ourselves only gives us the summary of steps that we followed to achieve our target and this should only be used as a tool to analyze that, what is it that we didn’t do. Each failure comes with a better learning then success does.
