Lord Ganesha is also known by various other names such as Ekdanta- the one with one tooth. Lambodara- Person with hanging belly, Vighanharta- the one who takes away obstacles. Ganapati - ruler of many, Gajanand- the one with head of an elephant.
Vahana used by Shri Ganesha:
While we commonly know mouse being used as his Vahana he is said to be using other Vahanas as per his Avatar. This includes- Lion, Peacock, Snake and Horse.
Recent history of celebrations:
The festival got celebrated publicly in Pune in the era of King Shivaji (1630–1680). The festival lost state patronage after the start of British Raj. However, freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak revived this celebration again in Maharashtra.
Prasad:
A dumpling called Modak is made from rice or wheat flour, it is stuffed with grated coconut, jaggery, dried fruits and other condiments and is either steamed or fried.
