Many of you must be aware of the prayers that are offered to different plants, trees and rivers. While you continue to follow the rituals that were first launched centuries ago, did you think what was the reason behind? Let’s de-code few today.
The Holy Basil (Tulsi) - Believed to mandatorily be a part of every Hindu household actually has medicinal properties, it is not just immunity booster but can also be used to cure fever, cold cough and also has anti-cancer properties. These are just few benefits. So when your elderlies passed the tradition of watering the plant, lighting a lamp and particularly worshipping it during Kartik Maas( Beginning of winters) you now know there is much more to what you knew.
The sacred fig tree (Peepal)- Did you know the tree can cure almost fifty types of disorders- few of them are asthma, diabetes, diarrhea, epilepsy, gastric problems, inflammatory disorders etc.. so now you know the reason why our elderly promoted lighting a lamp under the tree and having it in surroundings.
Similarly rivers were worshiped to spread awareness on importance of water, to discourage people from polluting it and valuing the natural resource. With passing years the worshipping has got restricted to few ghats and that too across few meters.
It is only when we understand the science behind rituals that we will start believing in them and follow them as a value addition and not blind faith.
PS- This is my independent belief for your consideration
